Working both with and alongside customers, we’re constantly learning about their requirements for their Wedding Day Cake and managing any enquiries and questions that arise. As a result, we’ve included a list of frequently asked questions along with answers in order to provide some clarity in how things work both in general and here at Cake By CEO. HOW DOES CHOOSING A WEDDING CAKE WORK?

The first thing we usually receive is an email asking if we have availability for your wedding date, we will respond to your email with a few details about how things are worked out this end.

We then require a non-refundable retainer of £200 to secure your date. Terms and conditions are given to you upon initial booking request. 

The reason for the retainer is that in order to proceed with your own wedding cake we will unfortunately have to turn away others. There are only so many cakes that can be taken on in a week and this does vary depending on the complexity. 

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY WEDDING CAKE?

Most couples tend to look at booking their cake at around 9 -12 months before their wedding day. Indeed it is generally once their venue has been confirmed and booked, thus securing the date!
There is no set time to book a wedding cake however, the summer months are our busiest period, especially bank holiday weekends. It is advisable if you wish us to provide your wedding cake that you secure the date with a retainer and designs can drawn up at a later date. We can on occasion, and if we have the availability, fit in a cake with as little as 14 days notice.
We are currently taking bookings right up to the end of 2022.

WHAT HAPPENED ONCE I HAVE BOOKED?

This depends on whether you have just reserved the date inititally or whether you are further down the line and ready to design your cake. For the latter When you have agreed on your final design, we will send you a confirmation email with the details of the cake and we will then require a non-refundable retainer of 50% of the total value of your cake (minus your initial date retainer). We will then contact you again about 8 weeks before the wedding to finalise everything. At this point you can make any changes you would like - you are able to change flavours, size and even the design. We require the balance of your cake to be paid in full 8 weeks prior to the wedding date. We speak to the venue a week or two before the wedding to arrange a delivery time with them.

Please note that we reserve the right to make final decisions about your cake. This might mean creative alterations to the design which has been booked, but will always be made in keeping with the design. Some last minute changes for aesthetic reasons or if there are any structural issues or extreme warm weather on the day of your wedding. Not all changes may be discussed with you as our cakes are made very close to the day of the wedding, and some decisions may even need to be made when setting the cake up at your venue.

WHERE DO WE DELIVER?

For all Wedding Cakes we do not offer a collection service, this is to ensure that they arrive at the venue in pristine condition, they are also set up and stacked at the venue. The delivery will be factored already into your cake quote and not separately as it is non negotiable. 

Celebration Cakes are on the whole collected from Barrow, Bury St Edmunds. However we can deliver based if we have the time and price is on application. 

  

WHAT SORT OF DESIGNS CAN I HAVE?

Here at Cake by CEO, we specialise in Sugar flowers, but we also do all kinds of sugar work, from working with Isomalt creating stained glass effects in sugar to Royal Icing and Pastilliage amongst some of the materials that we use to create the structure and decorations of our cakes.

I WANT A CAKE WITH SEVERAL TIERS. CAN I HAVE A DUMMY CAKE TIER?

Of course! Dummy tier cakes are good for many different ideas! If you want decoration that isn't edible, or may make an actual cake unstable its a really good option to go for. Equally if you don't want to have a lot of cake wasted but would prefer a large wedding cake then again this can provide the option you need. There are other designs to consider as well, there are dummy tiers that have cutouts in the centres for example a heart shape. There are lots of different options that are available to you.

WHAT CAKE FLAVOURS DO YOU OFFER?

The sponges that we bake are Genoise Sponges. The sponge flavours that we currently offer are Vanilla, Lemon, Chocolate, Red Velvet, Carrot Cake and a Light Rich Fruit Cake. Our sponge basis are light, airy and moist. We aim to keep the sponge flavours simple as the buttercream flavours have quite a depth of flavour!
Our cakes are then filled in a buttercream flavour of your choice, from a very wide range, and then coated on the outside in either a white, milk or dark Belgian chocolate ganache. This provides an excellent base before the cake is covered in a luxurious thin layer of Swiss sugar paste.

DO YOU CATER FOR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

Whilst we have had specific allergen training here at Cake, we must notify all our customers that we simply cannot guarantee that our products are totally free from allergens. We use a kitchen that handles both nuts and tree nut products such as marzipan, milk/cream, wheat, maize, and take the utmost care to avoid cross contamination. We consistently practice best food hygiene policies, but we also bring in certain ingredients and products that are handled in factories that also may contain certain allergens. Our kitchen and working practices are rated as 5 (Very good) by West Suffolk Council. We will however do our utmost to cater to your requirements.

WHAT SIZE CAKE WILL I NEED?

Our sponge cake portions are calculated as a 1x2x5 inch slice and our Fruit cake as a 1x1x3inch slice. We can advise you on the number of portions different tier combinations result in. Don't forget that we can also use dummy tiers should you require for your dream cake, or you can always have a smaller cake but then have a cutting cake around the back in the kitchen. There are so many possibilities and I am happy to discuss which will suit you best.
